Advancing with Geospatial Tech: The Post Building's Digital Twin

Our latest project involves creating a digital twin of The Post Building. It's a digital version of our physical space, allowing us to better understand and manage our building. Think of it as a practical tool for planning and analysis, helping us make more informed decisions for the future. It will also allow us to better show off our space to prospective tenants and partners.

The Downtown North Insight District is evolving into notable, national hub for geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) and financial technology (Fintech). Here at The Post Building, we are actively exploring how geospatial technologies can enhance how our tenants interact with and utilize space in the district.

IN THE HEART OF ST. LOUIS, the Downtown North Insight District is emerging as a notable, national hub for geospatial intelligence and financial technology. Here at The Post Building, we are excited to be a part of that transformation. In 2020, our historic renovation evolved the old St. Louis Post-Dispatch headquarters into a crucial regional base for Fintech leaders Square and Cash App. Just a block away, The Globe Building is home to several GEOINT and defense contractors, including General Dynamics, Esri, and Maxar Technologies. Not far from there, the T-Rex incubator on Washington Avenue is busy nurturing a variety of promising startups and leading critical initiatives, such as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's Moonshot Labs. Meanwhile, we are exploring how geospatial technologies can enhance how our tenants interact with and utilize space at The Post Building.

DIGITAL TWINS: A SMART ADDITION

Our latest project involves creating a digital twin of The Post Building. It's a digital version of our physical space, allowing us to better understand and manage our facilities. Think of it as a practical tool for planning and analysis, helping us make more informed decisions for the future. It will also allow us to better show off our space to prospective tenants and partners.

With the help of Matterport, we've digitally mapped the 5ᵗʰ and 6ᵗʰ floors. These are the current rentable floors, as the others are in use. This technology serves several practical purposes:

Virtual Tours: Prospective tenants can now get a feel for the building from anywhere, simplifying the decision-making process.

Efficient Building Management: The digital scans are proving valuable for maintaining and managing the building more effectively.

Design and Compliance Insights: These models are helpful for checking compliance and planning future design changes.

ACTIONABLE OBSERVABILITY: SENSING THE SUBTLE CHANGES

Tautuk, a device identity and assurance company based in Boston, will soon be adding smart sensors to our building. These will measure various environmental and physical aspects of the building, providing us with valuable data to understand and adapt to our building more effectively.

For example, Tautuk sensors can measure minute changes in temperature and humidity throughout the day. They can monitor the amount of methane and CO2 buildup in different parts of the premises, then adjust heating, ventilation, and cooling accordingly to keep the building running as efficiently as possible.

Combined with the highly precise digital twin captured by Matterport, these two technologies form the basis for transforming The Post Building into a living reference implementation of modern ‘Smart Buildings’.

GEOSPATIAL TECH IN REAL ESTATE

Incorporating geospatial technology, like the digital twin concept, is becoming increasingly relevant in commercial real estate. In Downtown St. Louis and beyond, these tools are not just about showcasing a property, they allow us to understand it better, then enable us to make smarter decisions:

Efficiency and Sustainability: These technologies help illustrate how buildings like ours can operate more efficiently.

Making Informed Decisions: Prospective tenants can explore and evaluate spaces remotely, which is especially beneficial for those considering a move to the Downtown North Insight District.

Data-Driven Management: The integration of environmental data from Tautuk sensors informs our building management strategies.

The Post Building is adopting these technologies, not just for the sake of innovation, but for tangible improvements in how e manage and present our space. It’s a more thoughtful approach to integration technology in the work space, right here in Downtown St. Louis.

Ultimately, our goal is to bring the future of Smart Building innovation to St. Louis. What you see here is just the beginning, so check back often to hear more about out progress.
